#400 : "Lemak manis" fruit

I bought this interesting fruit at Kundasang fruit and vegetable market. The taste is similar to that of Japanese sweet potatoes. If I were at home, I would use it to make muffins :)

#398: I am back!!! :)

I love December! I enjoyed my action packed December so far and I still have 3 more days to enjoy. There are a lot of stuffs to write about. I have not blog about my recipes for quite sometime now, I think I will do that later.. :) . For now I just want to share some of the "balasan" that I've prepared for my sis-in law's wedding.

#314: Dinner with left-over chicken

I usually "recycle" my left-over chicken. I cooked a large amount in the morning and keep some for dinner. Sometimes , the chicken became part of noodles, nasi goreng or sandwiches. But, this one is always my favourite.

I had cooked butter chicken Indian style the other day, where bite-size boneless chicken pieces were cooked with tomatoes, coriander and spices. So, in the evening, to the left over chicken, I added sauteed diced capsicum and thinly sliced onion. To the mixture I added burrito seasoning. I then transferred the mixture and cheddar cheese onto tortillas and this became the filling. I rolled the tortillas, baked them for about 10 minutes and there you are , a sumptuous dinner...

#258: FAREWELL...

Today, we had a short farewell party for 3 colleagues, two of whom are very dear to me. These two are my junior colleagues who also happen to be my "neighbours" in the main staffroom. I first met Rahijah and Manja during the December holiday 2005, when I reported for duty after finishing my Masters degree. Rahijah was from STPRI and we shared good moments especially when it comes to food time during the holiday. Manja was from MD but was taking her leave as she had her wedding in December 2005. Since there were very few locals we and few others were always involved in the school activities. Manja will be doing her Masters in the UK, while Rahijah is promoted to HOD IRK in SMSAB. Miss you both :(

#252.. Ambuyat time..

Auni have been asking me when will the next "Ambuyat" time. This morning at Jerudong Market I bought fresh "tenggiri" fish and prawns (yay!) . At the "pasar borong" at Selayun, I bought the ingredients for the Ambuyat feast including "tempoyak", "jaruk binjai", "lemiding", "tibadak" and others. I also bought "candas" for the occasion. So , it's ambuyat for today's lunch and here's some of what we ate ..

#251 mmm......

I was "hired" by my boy students to help them in the "business" that they have proposed. They came up with the idea of ice-cream served with some sort of ice-cream biscuit and cake. They have tried so many recipes but some how was not able to come up with the right one. So, I came up with pie biscuit filled up with my black brownie .. this was how it looked like... I asked my children to "test" the product and they liked it very much .. So.. Good Luck boys!

#245 : Muffins for sale

I am now slowly venturing into muffins's business. It started when my hubby brought my soft chocolate muffins to school and from there people are now ordering my chocolate muffins. At first, I didn't want to do it, but I think Allah has opened for me another "pintu rezeki" so, well why not... and another thing is that I really enjoy baking and cooking, so it's not a hassle for me to do it. So,wish me luck people !

At the moment I am selling at 3pcs a dollar with minimum order of $5.00 :)

#125 A QUICK DINNER

I brought my boy, Darwish to my work place today . For these past week, it's kind of frustrating because I had to play with him only for a while as I came home at about 4.00- 5.00 p.m. By the time I came home, he's already tired, demanding his breast milk (BTW, he is still breastfeeding) and quickly dozed off. He enjoyed his "visit" today and had called the school... "a castle" :). We came home at about 4.00 p.m, he slept at 5.00 p.m. and I am sooooo...tired. So for hubby and the kids, I made them a very simple dinner... Kway teow with butter oat chicken.

Kway teow: I fried it with garlic, season it with tom yam powder, chicken stock powder, sesame oil, rice vinegar and light soy sauce.

Butter oat chicken: I cooked exactly like the butter oat prawn , but replacing the prawn with chicken fillets instead.

I assembled the kway teow and butter oat chicken onto a plate, sprinkled some sliced spring onion and fried shallots on top...

It was sooo good! Chicken tasted as nice as the prawn.. * smile, thinking about Ihsan *

#117 23rd of February......

TO ALL BRUNEIANS... WHERE EVER YOU MAY BE....
SELAMAT MENYAMBUT HARI KEBANGSAAN YANG KE 23.

When I was in form 3, I was involved in the 1st National day... 23/2/1984. We were involved in the opening of the umbrellas that showed the kalimah " Bismillah hir rahman nir rahim" at the National Stadium. I remember it was the green umbrella I was holding. I was also involved in the 2nd and the 3rd National day as well, singing in the choir. The 2nd national day took place at the National Stadium and the 3rd National day , it was in front of the old custom office. My favourite songs? Definitely, Brunei Bumi Bertuah and Purih Bangsa . What a memory !. I was also involved in the Pesta Sukan Merdeka in 1985, we were forming patterns on the field, we were given a blue tracksuit each. The tracksuit was thick and heavy, and running in them was very uncomfortable. I was also involved in the National day 1989 and 1990. Last year, I participated in the parade together with 19 other teachers and 100 of our students. Were any of you out there involved in the National day celebrations?

#94 : The "makan-makan"

THE FOOD.......

THE COMPANY....

Last Sunday, I felt like to eat "Mee Kari" and My Hubby "tais liur" Tiramisu. So, I called My siblings over to eat with us. I prepared the Tiramisu early in the morning and keep it in the fridge, then only I prepared the Mee Kari's gravy and the condiments. Auni's Bday is coming up... she already has a long list of dishes she wants me to cook for her big day... including her b'day cake !!!

#77 My First post 2007... Yahoo!

Yeah... I am blogging again... Life has been hectic eventhough its just the fourth day of the new year.
Firstly, the maid is still on her holiday.. and I hate ironing :( ,
secondly, I have to leave my boy with our Ustaz's wife ,
thirdly, I have to throw away my notes because of the recent flood that hit our school ,
fourthly My office space is still in a chaotic state due to the flood...,
fifthly, there's no U turn linking Lambak-Kiri and Rimba, because the soil near to the road and under the road was eroded.. so I have to go to Lambak and back to the highway, which cost me 5-7 minutes of my "journey"time,
and lastly, it seemed that some drivers used the "bahu jalan" to "potong queue" ...this happened especially when I picked my girls from schools, these drivers simply"barged in their cars" eventhough they knew that there were 20 or more cars waiting for their queue.. how selfish.

Happy New year people.. to My students.. learn your ATP, glycolysis and Kreb's cycle :)

#5 SELAMAT HARI RAYA!!

Syawal is here....

Today is 11th Syawal, a busy time for muslims to celebrate, renew friendships, visiting relatives and friends. Here and there the phenomena of " Open Houses" , just like a virus is infecting Brunei . I missed the days when people just come to the house without having have to ask before hand .... "Bila u open house?". You see, when people came to the house during the so-call " open house" session, we will hardly able to have a decent conversation with them simply because they are so many people that we need to attend to. That is the reason why I do not have an "open house" session. I simply cook whenever I feel I like it, call my core family for makan and others who happen to come to the house will eat , whatever is being served.

So a few days before Hari Raya I was so busy making biscuits and cakes for the joyous occassion and I still am because most of my "kueh raya" has finished and I need to replenish them... to everyone here... Selamat Hari raya Maaf zahir dan Bathin...
